NAME: Santa Ana
SPECIES: Mexican Wolf

Picture of Santa Ana
A Ghost Ranch lineage wolf, Santa Ana was born April 27, 1988 into private ownership. He arrived at the WCSRC in the fall of 1995 suffering from permanent lameness in his left front leg caused by barbed wire while he was still privately owned. Although Santa Ana is getting up there in wolf years, he is a beautiful, strong, muscular animal who seems to enjoy the companionship he has found with his new mate Tanamara.  The two have been chosen by the USFWS to be a breeding pair.  This "underdog" pair would significantly enhance the genetic diversity of the pair.

NAME: Blitzer & Tala
SPECIES: Red Wolf

Blitzer (left), born May 10, 1991, arrived at the Wild Canid Center on November 4, 1999 from the Henson Robinson Zoo in Springfield, Illinois.  Blitzer, along with his mate at the time, is famous for his escape from the Springfield zoo in March of 1999. He was captured in just a few hours, but his mate eluded captors for more than 7 days.  Tala arrived from the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge in Awendaw, South Carolina on December 11, 2000.  She was born on April 17, 1996.  Blitzer and Tala were paired together on January 31, 2001.  The pair is housed in one of our largest and most remote enclosures.  Neither has bred before, and both seem to be shy and wary.  We hope their quiet, secluded enclosure is just what they need to bond and feel comfortable together.

NAME: Juanita
SPECIES: Mexican Wolf

Picture of Juanita
Born at the WCSRC on April 22, 1987 to parents Don Diego and Sylvia, Juanita was housed at several other facilities before returning to the WCSRC to be paired with Cheech. She and Cheech produced a healthy litter of three pups in May of 1998. Because of Juanita's age, she and Cheech are no longer a breeding pair.  She is currently housed with her brother Christian.  The two offer each other companionship and are often resting together on their wooded hillside.

NAME: Alano & Frijole
SPECIES: Mexican Wolf

NAME: Francisco
SPECIES: Mexican Wolf

Picture of Frank
Francisco was born at the WCSRC on April 30, 1988 to his wild-caught father, Don Diego and his mate, Sylvia.  Though now retired, Francisco and his recently deceased mate Sheila, made their mark at the Wild Canid Center through several years of successful breeding.  Francisco was a strong and caring patriarch raising nearly 20 pups.   In fact, almost 80% of the wolves in the wild are directly related to Francisco and Sheila. "Frank" resides at the Wild Canid Center with his daughter, Saquaro.  The two make great companions.  Her presence has indeed lifted Francisco's spirits.
